Why now

Adoption is near-universal. Advantage is not.

Most organisations now use AI. Very few are turning it into measurable value, and the skills their people need are changing fast. That gap is a leadership problem.

Accelerated Digital Innovation closes the gap between AI use and organisational value. Equity Reimagined, Leadership in the Digital Era prepares people, performance and trust for the change.

Programme 01 · Technology and innovation

Accelerated Digital Innovation

Turn AI and emerging technology into an implementable roadmap, governed operating model and credible business case.

So I think what is exciting is actually the people’s sentiments of AI. Inclusive innovation is important because we actually lose money by not being inclusive. So it’s not just the right thing to do, it actually enables business opportunities, and AI is an amplifier.

It’s not really meant to replace people, but to amplify people, amplify processes, and amplify organisations. But we have to do it in a very informed, inclusive way, and this requires systematic design methods, and that’s what I’m really passionate about.

Systematic design methods that allow people to do responsible innovation, and they essentially infuse AI within their organisation, and their processes, and enable and amplify everybody to do their best and live a good life.

Programme 02 · People and transformation

Equity Reimagined, Leadership in the Digital Era

Lead AI-enabled organisational change so people, technology, performance and trust move together.

Expert insight · Guest speaker The Science of Equity Intervention and Equal Opportunity Professor Nira Chamberlain OBETechnical Fellow for Mathematical Modelling, AtkinsRéalis

Look, if it’s a science problem, you know, instead of a subjective problem — if it’s a science problem, there has to be a baseline. In order to define a baseline… the baseline is, if all things are equal, what numbers do we expect to see?

And then from that you can actually branch out, taking a scientific, mathematical approach to look at EDI: look at the definition of equality, of diversity, even look at the definition of inclusion.

And it’s talking about an equity intervention, coming out with the right equity intervention.

Expert insights

The thinking behind the programmes

On 15 September 2026, Ascension X brought senior leaders together at Homerton College for “Inclusive Innovation is the New Competitive Advantage”. These are some of the ideas discussed.

Professor Nira Chamberlain OBE · The Science of Equity Intervention and Equal Opportunity

“What are the numbers we expect to see, if all things are equal?”

On using probability and proper scientific measures to recognise when outcomes are statistically abnormal, trace back what is going wrong, and design the right equity intervention.

Read the transcript

Chamberlain’s law is really based on the law of probability. If tossing a fair coin is not equal to half, then Chamberlain’s law is incorrect. It’s the case of: what are the numbers we expect to see, if all things are equal?

There was a historian, David Olusoga. He says, when he looks at these corporations, “this is a statistical abnormal.” He’s a historian, telling scientists, mathematicians and engineers about EDI in corporations, that it’s statistically abnormal.

Why are we taking things which are statistically abnormal and normalising it — normalising what is statistically abnormal? That should have created some red flags, saying something’s going wrong. Using proper scientific measures, we can actually trace back and see what’s going wrong, and do the proper equity intervention.
